JONATHAN HAYES
Conversating Weldon Kees for Sacramento Who you, new to me, man? Asian femboy at Borders turns me onto you, and points at your car parked by the north end of Golden Gate Bridge – keys left in the ignition. Was it really what Richard Lopez told me ‘bout the documentary he watched of people jumping off the bridge? like this one guy talking on his cell phone and laughing, then jumping…. Or did you take your savings account and sleeping bag to Mexico? Yes, “Sleep is too short a death,” and death is the longest sleep. Jonathan Hayes lives in San Francisco, California. He has taught poetry at 826 Valencia – a writing center for children – located in the Mission District of the City. |
