CHRIS MAJOR
Curse Sixteen. Peered through the 1950's chintz net, saw ironing board and bare legs, shouldered a flimsy lock and took a gas chop to the throat. The rest of that decades ago day a complete whirr, details flung to mind's periphery, a forever frame to blue lips and swollen tongue recalled too vividly. His mum, my Nan, a curse generation skipped to me, pathetically combated by pills, counselling, odd ward stays. Scared history will repeat, dad never offers to support, just falls silent, heeding a noise spanning 50 years, ssshhhh, sssssshhhhhhhhh...... Chris Major's work has appeared online at Zygote in my coffee, My Favorite Bullet, Remark, Lily, Stirring,Pemmican, Snakeskin and Underground Voices. |
