UNDERGROUND VOICES: POETRY
JUSITN HYDE

they put me in special classes

mrs bunker's
small room
for math
and reading.

i knew i wasn't
a feeb.

it was just
dying dogs,

little girls with
crippled legs,

and the way
my father sighed
and stared
at the walls.

i was nine
and didn't yet know
how to say
nothing is worth it
and nothing
ever will be.

so i sat quietly
in mrs bunkers room
with my hands
in my lap
and

fantasized about
crawling
into the sewer
with dad's
exacto knife
and doing
the thing.
