UNDERGROUND VOICES: POETRY

ANTONY HITCHIN

1985

We are punched type writer ribbons,
aching to remove, write something over we can vainly consider
‘new’
but the loop is decaying and the spool unwinds
like
an old cassette
-from 1985-
once eliciting hope - now desperately muffled - cartridge smudged; sides A,
B binaries …

if there is only the present like the Swami told me, why do I have these memories
and why did the bastards have to thump the keys so hard?
