UNDERGROUND VOICES: POETRY - 06/2012

J.J. CAMPBELL

the promised land

i've taken one too
many detours on
the road to the
promised land
and though i've
realized my
mistakes they're
still mistakes
no matter how
much i seek
forgiveness
i've yet to
find any
the sun has set
on my better
days
creeping closer to
my unavoidable
slip into the
vast void of
languishing
lament
one last bottle
one last trip
down memory
lane
soon to be
finished off
for the final
time
