UNDERGROUND VOICES  BOOK REVIEW

OHIO AT DUSK
By Joseph Hirsch

A solid crime thriller pitting Detective James Arklow against a phantom werewolf, Joseph Hirsch’s debut novel delivers exactly what it promises. Like all genre crime thrillers, the narrative is plot-driven, but Ohio at Dusk is not just genre. It’s a literary hybrid of richly layered characters and well-crafted text. There are additional plusses to the book: plot points come in unexpected bursts, unanswered questions remain far into the book’s third act and the book doesn’t linger after all the questions are answered; it ends nicely and neatly. A satisfying read from start to finish.
